About the TARA

The newly introduced Test of Academic Reasoning for Admissions (TARA) is a three-part, computer-based admissions test designed to assess the reasoning and communication skills needed for success in some of UCL’s most academically rigorous courses:

Understanding the TARA’s structure and demands is crucial for effective preparation and achieving the best possible results.

Maximum Score: 9.0
- The total score from the Critical Reasoning and Problem Solving modules is scaled to a range from 1.0 to 9.0
- The Writing Task is not marked. A copy of the response is made available to each participating university to which the candidate has applied
Format: 3 modules (Candidates have to complete all 3)
- Critical Reasoning (22 MCQs)
- Problem Solving (22 MCQs)
- Writing Task (1 essay from 3 prompts)
Test Duration: 2 hours (40 minutes for each module)
